INTENT
To give guidance on the expectations regarding attendance at school for the students of Wesgreen.
- Attendance at school each day is mandatory.
- For all absences, a letter dated and signed by parents and a medical certificate must be presented to the Form teacher upon return to school.
- Failure to do this may result in the student not being allowed back into school.
- For extended illness parents must arrange for homework by contacting the school, giving at least one day’s notice.
- The school will contact the student’s parents/guardians on the third day of absence to track the situation.
- On the fifth day of illness, the school will send a letter/email home outlining the actions that need to be taken.
- The school is not obliged to provide alternate opportunities for examinations, tests or quizzes, as per the school policy.
- Family vacations must not be taken during the academic year. The school calendar can be consulted when planning family vacations.
- Absence from class does not excuse the student from the responsibility of learning material covered or from completing assignments during absences.
- It is the responsibility of the student to catch up on work missed.
- All students should arrange personal business outside of school hours. If this is not possible parents/guardians must inform the school in writing with exact reasons for the absence, at least one school day in advance.
- In Grades 9, 10,11,12,13 all students must maintain a minimum attendance of 95% in each of those years.
- If the minimum is not reached during one of these years, the school reserves the right to expel the student or to refuse to enter him/her for their external examinations.
- The final decision rests with the Headmaster in all cases.
