Quotations
We make a living by what we get; we make a life, by what we give.                       -Churchill

Everyday look at a beautiful picture, Read a beautiful poem, Listen to some beautiful music, And if possible—say some reasonable thing.
                      - Goethe

If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue, Or walk with Kings-nor lose the common touch, If neither foes nor loving friends can’t hurt you, If all men count with you, but none too much; If you can fill the unforgiving minute With sixty seconds’ worth of distance run, Yours is the Earth and everything that’s in it, And-which is more-you’ll be a Man, my son.
                       -Kipling

4.5 + Tonnes sent, 13,000+ dhs collected...

Our Helpers Society in response to the disaster in Asia, asked for help, and our community responded in cash and kind. Over 4.5 tonnes of blankets, pillows, rice, canned goods, toys and soft mattresses were collected by our school community in less than two weeks. It was heartwarming to see the astronomical amounts collected by our students in such a short time. The youngest contributor, as witnessed by me, was a student from Kg1, actually dragging a bag of blankets that was bigger than him. I hope that our humble assistance will make a difference in the lives of those who need it most. After all what do we live for in this world, if not to make life a little easier for one another, especially at times like this.

Things to share with your child...

As part of Wesgreen International School, I would like you to review the following with your child:

Work hard and seek to achieve academic and personal excellence.  As a student of our School you accept responsibility for your behavior; every individual freedom carries a responsibility.  Each individual is ultimately responsible for knowing school policies and accepts the consequences when the values of the school are violated. Participating in the creation of a friendly and just school one that is free of racism and discrimination against others because of one's disability or international origin. Participating in those school caring activities that create a sense of "oneness," as reflected in donating and collecting to alleviate local and international problems. Realize that the school values rigorous study rather than cheating on exams or plagiarizing; agree that the value of one's education is lowered for all if cheating becomes the norm; consider totally unacceptable an entirely selfish act such as cutting a page from a library book or journal, for these activities deny others an opportunity to learn and achieve. Realize that our faculty and professionals are sensitive to your needs and they set aside time to be available to students and visitors; students and visitors are respectfully received; they are available to discuss academic and personal progress; and they are sensitive enough to identify students with academic and personal problems and refer them to the appropriate place and people for assistance.

Do ensure that our students show respect to themselves and others; the overwhelming majority show respect for the property of the school and take special pride in trying to keep their classrooms and play areas clean and free of vandalism. Let them be good ambassadors of Wesgreen International School.

Facts are stubborn things ”.

Attendance... Curriculum Guides...

Parking...

Our School calendar is prepared and distributed to the community every academic year at the beginning of June for the following academic year. However, it has been witnessed that many families do not plan accordingly. It was extremely disappointing to note that 60 plus children from the KG Section were absent after the recent EID holiday. These children are unable to decide for themselves whether they should be present in school or not. It is therefore sad that parents do not see the need for regular attendance. These absences from school are a major set back for children of this age. According to the Ministry of Education —all absenteeism must be accounted for. Curriculum guides are available on our school website: www.wesgreen.net under ‘Student Section’. These guidelines describe the philosophy of each section/grade and subject. At present they are an outline of each subject’s guidelines: Chapters to be covered, topics, assignments that are due and examination requirements. Everyone should be aware of what their child is doing, and what is expected of them. If you feel that your child is not working according to the aforementioned guidelines —do contact the respective Head. You may refer to my October newsletter, in which the contact list was given out. During the second semester you will be notified when a detailed scheme of work will be available for guidance as well.

It seems that parking in the Primary Section is still a problem. Horns are still being blown and children are still being told to meet their cars in the parking lot. A reminder to all: do ensure that whoever collects your child, they must go to the playground to collect them. We have little ones who are, at times, oblivious to their surroundings —take the few extra steps, and make sure that they are walked to their cars.

Attendance Cont’d...

Parents must keep this in mind while planning holidays. No request for extended leave will be entertained. In case of absenteeism a note of excuse must be submitted by the student, upon return, to the Building Head. Letters have been sent out to those who left prior to this holiday and have still not returned; the same will be copied to students files for future reference.

To my students-

Don’t say you’re not important...

Don’t say you’re not important,
It simply isn't true,
The fact that you were born,
Is proof, God has a plan for you.

The path may seem unclear right now,
But one day you will see,
That all that came before,
Was truly meant to be.

God wrote the book that is your life,
That’s all you need to know.
Each day that you are living,
Was written long ago.

God only writes best sellers,
So be proud of who you are,
Your character is important.
In this book you are the “Star”.

Enjoy the novel; as it reads,
It will stand throughout the ages,
Savour each chapter as you go,
Taking time to turn the pages.
