Sports Days…  Productions...

The  Girls section, The Boys section, The KG section and The Primary section all participated in their Sports Day, wearing House Shirts which led to enthusiastic participants and fierce competition throughout the buildings. This was the first time that students in the Primary Section participated House wise — thus building team spirit and a sense of belonging. In the Girls and Boys Sections the Vipers won, and in the Primary Section the Falcons won.
The overall trophy for sports, with the consolidated result  will go to
Falcons!

The Primary Section performed to packed audiences, for all classes including Nursery! This year the Nursery, and KG1’s presented “A Day in the Country”, KG2’s presented “The Hungry Caterpillar” Sets were made, costumes designed and smiles were worn by all parents. It was a great effort by our young students. The theme for grades 1 to 4 was a more difficult and challenging one. The students tackled the desert, and what we can do to try to preserve it for future generations, and animals. Some superb acting by a number of cast members was witnessed and lauded.

Coffee Sessions...

Maaz Awarded...

With the onset of the second term, I have introduced a Coffee Session. These sessions will provide an opportunity for a group of up to 12 parents, randomly selected, to gather together with me to raise issues, which if feasible could be incorporated into future development plans. So far we have held two such meetings and the input has been promising. This will enable better communication and a venue for constructive criticism, rather than rumor mongering.

Maaz Khalid Mahmoud joined WIS in grade 7 and was recently awarded His Highness Sheikh Maktoum Bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Cambridge Award for Outstanding Academic Achievement, in recognition of his exceptional results in the 2004 Cambridge Examinations, which were taken in Grade 11. Maaz received: 6 A Star Grades, 3 A Grades, and 1 B for his examinations. I would also like to mention that Maaz was the Deputy Head Boy last year of the Boys Section. We all congratulate him for an outstanding result.

A Message by George Carlin

The paradox of our time in history is that we have taller buildings but shorter tempers, wider freeways, but narrower viewpoints. We spend more, but have less, we buy more, but enjoy less. We have bigger houses and smaller families, more conveniences, but less time. We have more degrees but less sense, more knowledge, but less judgement, more experts, yet more problems, more medicine, but less wellness. We spend too recklessly, laugh too little, drive too fast, get too angry, stay up too late, get up too tired, read too little, watch TV too much, and pray too seldom. We have multiplied our possessions, but reduced our values. We talk too much, love too seldom and hate too often. We’ve learned how to make a living, but not a life. We’ve added years to life not life to years. We’ve been all the way to the moon and back, but have trouble crossing the street to meet a new neighbour. We have conquered outer space but not inner space. We’ve done larger things, but not better things. We’ve cleaned up the air, but polluted the soul. We’ve conquered the atom, but not our prejudice. We write more, but learn less. We plan more, but accomplish less. We’ve learned to rush, but not to wait. We build more computers to hold more information, to produce more copies than ever, but we communicate less and less. These are the times of fast foods and slow digestion, big men and small character, steep profits and shallow relationships. These are the days of two incomes but more divorce, fancier houses, but broken homes. These are the days of quick trips, disposable diapers, throwaway morality, overweight bodies, and pills that do everything from cheer, to quiet, to kill. It is a time when there is much in the showroom window and nothing in the stockroom. Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away.

When one door closes another door opens; but we so often look so long and so regretfully upon the close door that we do not see the one which opened for us.
