Dear Parents / Guardians of Grade 8,

I hope by this time you have had a good opportunity to review our Options Booklet; you may recall at our Options Meeting I did discuss the form that will follow and the same is attached for Option Selection.

In keeping with our drive to further improve academic standards at Wesgreen International School, we start the IGCSE programme of study at an earlier stage in your child’s education. This will have the benefit of allowing a more in depth study of the subjects covered and so increase the opportunity for your child to achieve a higher grade at IGCSE.

The structure of the Year 9 curriculum is outlined on the attachment. Please note that some core subjects are compulsory such as Information Technology, English Language, English Literature, Arabic, Maths, and Islamic Studies for Muslims and only certain combinations of optional subjects are possible.

Optional Subjects once selected cannot be changed and will be mandatory for the students to continue with the same, for their studies until the completion of their final examinations in Grade 11. This allows a broad and balanced curriculum to be made available to the students and is consistent with the requirements of the Ministry of Education and the Cambridge IGCSE examinations.

Unfortunately, if there are fewer than five students who choose a particular option we will not be able to run that option, and we would then look at the reserve subject chosen by the students.

Attached is the form outlining the content of each of the available subjects. Please feel free to contact the Secondary Sections if you require any further information in respect of the choices to be made.
