ACADEMIC YEAR 2006-07 SENIOR BOYS LEADERSHIP CAMP

In keeping with the annual tradition at the Senior Boys School, the students from Grades 10 and 11 embarked on their eagerly anticipated Leadership Camp on Thursday 15th February, destined for Wadi Bih and the heights of Jebel Qihwi.

This is now the 6th Year the Boys School has had its camp and as last year, the camp had to be postponed due to rain in the mountains!

The camp is designed to give young men the opportunity to develop leadership skills in a controlled environment outside of the school. The aim is to challenge students to achieve personal development in areas not possible in a classroom environment. Several activities are always  planned that require team work and cooperation with fellow students and staff. Time is devoted to developing good habits and organisational skills.

The most dreaded activity is the final 2km climb to the camp site after they are dropped-off by bus on the wadi bed. The boys must then ascend the mountain carrying all their camping gear – including tent, sleeping bag, food and cooking equipment.

The boys all performed well, even after only a few hours sleep each night, and participated whole-heartedly in the activities. Luckily there were no goats this year to make the usual harsh conditions even worse!

Many thanks to the staff who gave-up their weekend to camp with the boys : Mr James Gore ( Year 5 Teacher ), Mr. Rob Knott ( Year 5 Teacher ), Mr. Hakan Deniz ( Science/Chemistry ), Mr. Mark Smith ( Mathematics ), Mr. Gangla Samson ( Physics ), Mr. Shaun Lampert ( Mathematics ) and Mr. Stephen Hoskins ( Head of Boys Section).
