The Academic year commences…

The start of a new school year brings a sense of renewal and promise.  Wesgreen students  arrive in September, bringing with them a wonderful diversity of backgrounds, talents, and abilities. Our current faculty is the most diverse in terms of ethnicity in our school’s history.  We celebrate this diversity because it enriches human experience and learning in our school community.  Many persons contribute to the quality of work and life at the school: parents of students, faculty and staff members who provide teaching and support, alumni and friends who give generously of their time and resources to sustain excellence here.  As we begin another year together, I am very grateful to all of you for your abiding commitment and support to the cause of education.

External Results...

I would like to congratulate Wesgreen Students on their excellent results. They have done us proud and are now scaling new heights and embracing greater challenges. Our best wishes are always with them. It is because reading is so important to human development that it is one of our most fundamental components here at school. Numerous studies have shown that reading during a child’s early years has a number of positive effects on the child’s ability to learn, creativity, processing of information, and imagination. It is, consequently, incumbent upon any caring parent to read to his/her child in order to ensure a strong educational foundation. Apart from stimulating the child’s interest in the message of the story and its characters, reading offers the child a glimpse into fantastical surroundings as well as the outside world, a change from his/her daily surroundings. This not only expands the child’s horizons but stimulates creativity and imagination. Reading is fundamental in building a sound vocabulary, and trains the child to use good grammar and enriches expression. The advantages that reading offers are so varied and evident that it is no wonder that people continue to read even into old age. But the advantages of reading for children are more numerous than for any other demographic, and a lack of reading causes the most harm to the younger demographic than to any other age group. This is because childhood is the seminal stage for education and paves the way for further progress. If strong reading habits are not inculcated in a child, the child is likely to never develop a love of reading, and his language, expression, and general good reading habits are also a prerequisite for good performance in school. After all, good readers become leaders.
