A few pilot projects...

At Wesgreen International School we do not remediate; we enrich. We have started a new program for English for students of grades 4 – 7, twice a week after school to help them overcome the difficulties they are facing. Our aim is to enrich our students and equip them with the skills necessary to succeed in their academic career. For the Secondary Students of grades 5 – 9, a Reading Program has been initiated to hone the speaking skills and enhance the verbal expression of our students. This will then lead to our Public Speaking Program where students will be asked to talk about the books read by them. This will be done in front of students of different grades. The audience will increase over a period of time, as the program progresses. I hope this program will make our students articulate and confident individuals.

One hundred and fifty students from grades 3, 5 and 7 have been randomly selected to participate in a live pilot project computer program which centers on English. neuroLanguage’s Harvard Business School Program focuses on listening and repeating to imitate correct pronunciation and learn vocabulary which aids reading comprehension and oral fluency . neuroLanguage program created by neuroLanguage Corporation is a leading developer of innovative English language communication technologies that enable people to Think English. Our Board of Governors has approved our participation in this program and the initial cost will be incurred by the school. Implementation of this program will be contingent upon its academic impact and benefit to our students. Should this be the case, further information will be provided to our student community.

On the co-curricula side; an Equestrian Club has been introduced in all three sections. Students can avail this opportunity to learn horse riding skills under the tutelage of trained riders from the Sharjah Equestrian Club. Our students also have the opportunity to avail swimming lessons, which are being offered in all three sections, by trained and certified swimmers.

Sports Days...

Our Annual Sports Day was recently held both in the Girls and Boys Section. Javelin and High Jumps, Shot Put, Relays and the 100 meter race are but a few events that took place. Over eighteen events were held throughout the day, with Falcon House in both the girls and boys section winning the overall trophy. Adding the primary house winner from the first term, Scorpion House, the House Championship for the academic year goes to the Falcons. I would like to congratulate the overall effort and enthusiasm of our students and staff members. The competitive spirit exhibited by the students was exemplary, with House Captains leading their teams. House colors were seen on banners, flags, house t-shirts and even hair was dyed to match.

Primary Productions...

It was a time when learning took place through fun and play. “Lights, Camera , Action!” The Primary School Production was held on 28th February and 1st March respectively. Over 600 students participated in this mammoth undertaking and the performances were held on two evenings and one morning. The budding actors of Wesgreen School show cased their talents to a packed audience on both days. The KG Section performed in the morning, on 28th February, and the little angels regaled the parents with their charm and innocence. Grades 1 and 2 had an evening program with their show revolving around “Seasons”. The enthusiastic performance compounded with beautiful costumes had the desired effect on the audience, who applauded the efforts of our children generously. Grades 3 and 4 performed on the last evening and the students stole the show with their highly charged performances. Parents embarked on a journey of mirth and laughter as they were taken into the realm of stories: myth, fable and science fiction. Nine short stories were depicted, coupled with scintillating song and dance. The students out did themselves with riveting performances and oodles of charm and confidence. It was a Herculean task with plenty of hard work, blood, sweat, and occasionally tears, but the end result was deeply satisfying and enjoyed by all and sundry.

Well done children! You have done us proud. As we continue on our quest for knowledge, education and excellence, I consistently seek your support, parents, to make this quest an enriching and fruitful experience for our children.
