Founded in 1985 it's mission is to “foster and inspire young people to achieve their full leadership potential.” Students will focus on various areas of study, including global communication, the diplomatic community, peace and security , interdependency in the world, and the role of the United Nations. The 12 day program will commence after summer examinations and take place in Washington D.C. and New York.
~ The British Council has two programs that our students will be involved in; one is entitled “Tomorrow’s Journalist” and is a continuation of the program that was initiated in the last Academic Year in Yemen and which was attended by Mr. Mohammed Al Zarooni a student of grade XI. Mohammed has been asked to join the next conference which will be held in London in early January 2008. The selection process for the second conference is already underway and one student from grade IX has been nominated for the same. The conference is entitled “Our Future, our activism. Your Challenge”. This conference will also be held in London and then will move on to Davos.

Our students at the primary level are spearheading a drive to increase awareness about the environment, thereby contributing to help save our planet. In collaboration with Envirophone, students are collecting old mobile phones, and with every phone collected Envirophone will donate 5Dhs. to a local charity, “Gulf for Food”. We all need to do our bit and be responsible when it comes to conserving energy, saving water and recycling. “Reduce, Reuse, Recycle”. |
UAE National Days...
Flags were put up, or should one say adorned Wesgreen Buildings for National Days, and are still flying high. The secondary sections competed with each other to gather enough material to cover the schools with the UAE Flag, and the boys succeeded in doing just that. The extra material that was collected by the boys school was used to make two additional flags for the primary buildings. While coming to school one could see the other schools in the area with the flags on the traditional flag poles. But when passing WIS one could witness from afar the largest flags engulfing the buildings. Students in the primary school had the opportunity to taste local Emirati sweets, foods, and even got to hear stories from Sharjah Social Development Center. At the Al Qarain Campus each class had put up a small skit for the benefit of our parent body. Students were also treated to rides on trains, and bouncing castles.
The Value of Parents...Author Unknown
A little boy came up to his mother in the kitchen one evening while she was fixing supper, and he handed her a piece of paper that he had been writing on. After his Mom dried her hands on an apron, she read it, and this is what it said:
For cutting the grass: $5.00, for cleaning up my room this week: $1.00 for going to the store for you: .50, babysitting my kid brother while you went shopping: .25, taking out the garbage: $1.00, for getting a good report card: $5.00 for cleaning up and raking the yard: $2.00, Total owed: $14.75
Well, his mother looked at him standing there, the boy could see the memories flashing through her mind. She picked up the pen, turned over the paper he'd written on, and this is what she wrote:
For 9 months I carried you while you were growing inside me: No Charge.
For all the nights that I've sat up with you, doctored and prayed for you: No Charge.
For all the trying times, and all the tears that you've caused through the years: No Charge.
For all the nights that were filled with dread, and for the worries I knew were ahead: No Charge.
For the toys, food, clothes, and even wiping your nose: No Charge, The cost of my love : No Charge. When the boy finished reading what his mother had written, there were big tears in his eyes, and he looked straight at his mother ...
And then he took the pen and in great big letters he wrote: "PAID IN FULL"
"Your Lord has decreed that you should worship nothing except Him,
and show kindness to your parents, whether one or both of them
attain old age (while they are) still with you, never say to them
'Shame! nor scold either of them. Speak to them in a generous
fashion. Protect them carefully and say: 'My Lord, show them mercy,
just as they cared for me as a little child'"
[Surah 17:23-24]. |
