Muhammad Abdul Latif joined WIS in grade 7 and on March 14, 2006 will be awarded His Highness Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Cambridge Award for Outstanding Academic Achievement. This award is in recognition of his exceptional results in the 2005 Cambridge Examinations, which were taken in Grade 11, and for scoring the highest in Geography world wide. Muhammad received 5 A Star Grades, 2 A Grades and 1 B Grade. I would also like to mention that Muhammad was a prefect last year in the Boys Section. We extend our heartiest congratulations to him on his outstanding achievement and for doing Wesgreen proud. Muhammad now attends Watford Grammar School for Boys in the United Kingdom.

Lights, Camera, Action...

Over Six Hundred and Twenty Actors performed on stage to entertain the Wesgreen family and friends. The audience turnout was spectacular with more than eighteen hundred people in attendance, over a period of three days. This year the Nursery and KG section presented “ The World Around Us”. Grades one and two presented, “Colors in our World” and grades three and four presented “Around the World in 80 minutes” , which actually turned out to be 120minutes! Props were made, backdrops prepared, lights and microphones were put in place and the stage was set for our budding actors. Students had worked tirelessly, since the past one month, for their performance. After numerous rehearsals and memorization of lines, the students finally got their act together, and the show was ready to roll on the road. Our stars performed enthusiastically and enthralled the audience on all three days.

Sports Day’s...

The Girls section, The Boys section, The KG section and The Primary section all participated in their Sports Day. Wearing House Shirts, painted faces and fierce competition leading to enthusiastic participants and fierce competition throughout the Schools. In the Girls section, Falcons took the lead, in the Boys section was the Vipers and in Primary the Scorpions. The overall trophy for sports, with the consolidated result will go to

VIPERS with 6780 combined points from all three sections, followed by Falcons with 6750 points, and in third place Leopards with 6572 and 6400 points to Scorpions.

Expectations...

At Wesgreen School, we expect our students to look neat and tidy at all times. They must come to school in a clean and pressed uniform, accompanied with polished shoes, and no accessories. A simple watch, clean and basic hair style. No gel, no make-up and no nail polish. Our students PRESENTATION is reflective of our school, and as such they should wear their uniform with pride. We expect them to take care of their surroundings and use school property with respect. Parents cooperation is expected, in this regard. Do ensure that your child leaves for school, looking and ready to do his/her best. As our aim is to not only focus on academics but also on the holistic development of our students.

Homework Tips for Parents...

1. Show an interest in your child's homework assignments. Ask about the subjects and the work to be done.

2. Be a role model -- take the opportunity to read a book or newspaper while your child studies. Reading together helps create a learning atmosphere.

3. Teach your child how to be organized. Be sure he or she keeps a homework assignment book.

4. Eliminate as many distractions as possible during study time.

5. Develop a strategy for dealing with homework. Find a plan that works for your family and stick with it.

6. Try to relate the homework to your child's everyday life. For instance, fractions and measurements can be learned as the child prepares a favorite food.

7. Encourage your child to establish a regular time to do homework. Developing a schedule might help avoid procrastination.

8. Meet with your child's teacher to discuss the nature of the approach to reading, spelling and other topics that your child is being taught.

9. Make sure your child has a specific place to do homework that offers ample lighting, minimal noise and plenty of work space.

10. Praise your child for successfully completing homework. Nothing builds self-esteem like praise from parents .
