Set shot or a free shot

- Hold ball with shooting hand behind and under the ball. Other hand supports the ball at the side

- Bend knees when preparing to shoot.

- Straighten legs and arms when shooting the ball.

- Follow through with shooting hand. (so it looks like a goose neck)

Approach the basket dribbling the ball then….

RIGHT SIDE – Step right, left, hop

Right knee up

LEFT SIDE – Step left, right, hop

Left knee up

Where to aim when shooting:

 

- Always use the backboard when shooting lay-ups from either side.

- Aim for the top corner of the box on the backboard.

- Focus in on this area; don't watch the ball. Keep your head up.

What to remember

Chest Pass

- Fingers spread on both sides of ball.

- Step forward with one foot.

- Elbows out, and push (snap) ball forward.

- After release, back of hands face each other.

Overhead Pass

- From the chest

- Bend knees

- Step forward and push the ball in an arc

Bounce Pass

- Fingers spread on both sides of ball.

- Step forward with one foot.

- Elbows out, push ball out and down (snap) more than half way to target.

- After release, back of hands face each other.

RULES:

   Rule: No double dribble: bouncing with 2 hands or dribbling, stopping then continue dribbling
   Penalty: the ball goes the other team and is thrown in from the sideline

   Rule: No traveling: moving with the ball without bouncing it
   Penalty: the ball goes the other team and is thrown in from the sideline

   Rule: You have 3 seconds to decide what to do with the ball.
   Penalty: The ball goes to the other team.

   Rule: No contact: you cannot touch the other player when defending or attacking
   Penalty: If fouled when shooting, 2 free shots are given. If fouled on the court, the ball is thrown in from the side.

The foul is recorded against that person. A maximum of 5 fouls is allowed in a game, after that, the player is sent off for the rest of the game.
