January 28th 2006
Office of the Headmaster,
Dear Parents and Students,
We have successfully reintroduced the A Level Programme at the school from September 2004. The programme is scheduled to run for two years (Grades 12 & 13), as is usual for A levels throughout the world. The A Level examinations can be split and taken in two years. Therefore, during the first year our students will study for AS level examinations (qualifying for half credit) and in the second year they will study for A2 level examinations of the same subject, thereby completing the remaining half to achieve one full credit per subject.
We will be offering our students a choice of the following subjects, of which they will select four depending upon their stream of interest, thereby each student taking four subjects over a two year programme.
- Chemistry
- Biology
- Physics
- Business Studies
- Economics
- Accounts
- Maths
- Art and Design
In addition to the above subjects, we will also ensure that in Grade 12 all students are able to fulfill the Ministry of Education requirement for Islamic and Arabic so that they are able to join any local College or University should they wish to do so after Grade 12.
At the end of the two year A Level program, if a student completes all his examinations, he/she would obtain A Level credits which would make him/her eligible for admissions to undergraduate studies anywhere in the world. Such a student may also get some exemptions/credits in the undergraduate programme based on the A Level result.
However, at the end of the first year (Grade 12) it is possible to "cash in" the AS level marks and leave for further education, although the entrance to Universities would be limited as he/she would be considered only to be completing Grade 12 (equivalent to Higher School Diploma).
Please note that if a prospective student has not obtained a minimum of a B-grade in Maths and a C-grade at IGCSE or GCSE in their chosen A level subject, they will be required to take an entrance examination in that subject before being admitted to the A Level programme. This entrance examination will take place on Tuesday 29 th August 2006 in the School.
You can be assured that during the time that they are studying at Wesgreen, we will make sure that all our students receive the latest updates regarding University entrance requirements and help in the sometimes complicated applications process. We shall also endeavor to ensure that we have a bank of information to help with potential career choices, after study. I am also planning a series of outside speakers, on topics related to Higher Education and Careers, to give our students as much information as possible so that they are in a position to make the right choices at this crucial part of their life.
If you have any questions regarding the A level programme do note that:
- A Brochure of the A Level Programme would be sent to you soon.
Please do not hesitate to contact me at the school or email me at headmaster@wesgreen.net and I will be only too happy to answer any queries you may have.
The Registration Form for the A Level Programme is attached. Do submit the same by Tuesday 18 th April 2006 so that the School can plan according to your choice of subjects.

Yours Sincerely,
