Singles= tall and thin Doubles= Short and fat

Shots used in Badminton

- Underhand - Overhead

- Serves: underhand and backhand - Backhand

- Smash - Drop Shot

Serving

- A coin toss or spin of the racket determines who will serve first. 

- The server must stand in the service box close to the middle of the court so they can choose where to land the serve in the opponent’s service box.

- The receiver of the serve should stand in the middle of their service box so they can reach any serve in their box.

- The serve must travel diagonally across the court to be good. 

- The racquet must make contact with the shuttle below the waist on a serve. 

- The server and receiver shall stand within their courts until the serve is made. 

- Points can only be scored when serving. 

- All lines are considered “in bounds“.

Badminton: Rules

- A player may not touch the net with a racquet 

- A shuttle may not come to rest or be carried on the racquet. 

- A shuttle may hit the net on its way across during play and can continue. 

- A player may not reach over the net to hit the shuttle. 

Interesting Fact:

Shuttlecocks are also known as birdies or birds.

One type has feathers with a cork base, and the other is plastic with a rubber base.
